Mintex pulls out all the stops to back MINI race series to the max

Mintex, part of TMD Friction, the world's number one specialist automotive friction supplier, will provide the stopping power for a grid of 25 Club Sport MINI Coopers when the lights go green on a new multi-discipline motor sport challenge in April. The series is designed to put MINI firmly back in the racing arena and Mintex commitment will ensure that this series is a real showstopper.

The championship offers the John Cooper Works Club Sport owners a unique opportunity to enjoy everyday road use in their MINI Cooper's as well as experience the buzz of competitive racing, and looks set to bring a new dimension to single-marque motor sport in 2002.

It was John Cooper that convinced BMC to build the original MINI Cooper in 1961. Since then Sussex based John Cooper Works has created and developed the specification of the 25 identical cars, and like the original model, the new JCW Club Sport bristles with excitement, featuring works-modified air intake and exhaust system boosting the engine power to 122bhp. The cars are also equipped with sports suspension and Mintex F-Series racing brake pads, ensuring optimum handling and superb braking under both road and competition conditions.

The John Cooper Challenge will burst onto the scene as a multi-discipline
series in April with the first of seven scheduled events consisting of a ultra-competitive races, hillclimbs and sprints that underline the versatility of the mighty new MINI.

Although the series is aimed at the grass roots level of motor racing, like all things MINI it will "punch above its weight" and with Mintex backing, the John Cooper Challenge will look to pull out all the stops to uphold the history of MINI in motor sport.

The Championship calendar is:

27th April Wiscombe Hill Climb, Woolbridge MC Hill Climb
8th June Abingdon Sprint, Sutton & Cheam MC Sprint
22nd June Gurston Downhill Climb, BARC Hill Climb
28th July Siverstone Race, 750 MC Race
18th August Bovingdon Sprint, Woolbridge MC Sprint
15th September Snetterton Race, 750 MC Race
